Tips and tricks to clean a microwave
A microwave is one of the most used appliances in your home. Microwaves are easy to use and time savers, however, you will need to clean it frequently to keep it clean and looking good. Big City Maids, the professional house cleaning service in Cypress Tx recommends the following tips in order to clean quick, easy, and cheap.
Before You Start Cleaning
The first thing to do is to disconnect the power cord to avoid an accident. Make sure the cord is in good shape without any cable exposure, if it is in good shape wipe off dirt and accumulated grease.
Cleaning with Paper Towels
An easy and fast way to clean a microwave is with a handful of soaked paper towels. Place the soaking paper towels inside the microwave and turn on the microwave for 5 minutes. When you do this, the steam will soften and loosen grease and grime in the interior of the microwave. Allow wet towels to cool down and then wipe off the interior.
Baking Soda
Another good option to clean a microwave is with a baking soda paste that you can make. To make the past, use one part water and one part baking soda and mix together. Once you mix the water and baking soda, apply it to the interior of the microwave and let it sit for 5 minutes. After it has been sitting for 5 minutes, wipe off the baking soda paste with a wet sponge or wet cloth. If there are any dirty spots left, use a paper towel to remove any residue.
Vinegar and Water
Another steaming option is to use vinegar and water. Add one tablespoon of white vinegar to one cup of water and turn on the microwave for 5 minutes. Make sure to use a microwave-safe glass. This process will also create steam and make it easier to wipe off grime and grease. After running the microwave for 5 minutes, carefully remove the glass container, and wipe off the inside of the microwave. Remove the turntable and wash it in the dishwasher.
Baking Soda and Vinegar
Lemon Juice
Start by cutting a lemon in half, and place both halves in a microwave-safe plate. Next, add a tablespoon of water and microwave for about a minute until the lemon is hot and the microwave interior is steamy. Finally, wipe down the interior of the microwave using paper towels. You can also throw the lemon in the garbage disposal/extractor and eliminate funky odors.
Dish Soap
Mix 1 tablespoon of dish soap and a cup of water in a microwave-safe bowl. After stirring and mixing it for a few seconds, place the bowl inside the microwave and run it for 2 minutes. This process will create steam and loosen all the grime and nasty food residue left inside your microwave. Simply get a cloth or paper towels and wipe the interior of the microwave. All the grime and grease should wipe off easil
Diluted Window Cleaner Solution
In a microwave-safe bowl, mix 2 parts window cleaner and one part water. Stir the mixture and apply it to the interior walls of the microwave, turntable and turntable support. Let it sit for five minutes so it can loosen all the stains and wipe down using a cloth or paper towels that are dipped into the mix you previously made. As a final step, use a clean paper towel or cloth that’s soaked with clean water to wipe off the microwave to ensure the mix is completely removed from the interior of the microwave.
Commercial Cleansers
There are many commercial cleaners that work perfectly and reduce the scrubbing you have to do to leave your microwave clean. We recommend Soft Scrub, it works perfectly on hard jobs. Be careful when using commercial-grade cleansers, some create fumes, choose a fume-free cleanser. We also recommend unplugging the microwave just to be safe. Different commercial cleansers have different recommended dwell times, so check the label when using commercial cleaners to clean your microwave.
